Now that I’m here as a contributor, let me just get this out of the way. The soundtrack for Final Fantasy VIII is the best of any of the Final Fantasy games, one of the best Uematsu ever created, and arguably one of the best soundtracks of any game ever.
Are you trying to amp yourself up to do a hard task? Throw on one of the battle themes. You just wanna chill and have something nice on in the background? Something like “Ami” or “Breezy” would be perfect. You want to reflect on one of the best scenes demonstrating Squall’s growth? Wow, look, “The Oath” is right there for you!!
I will also forever say that “The Extreme” absolutely stomps “One Winged Angel” from Final Fantasy VII as a final boss theme. Obliterates it. It’s musically more interesting, it has an incredible effect with the left and right channels if you listen with headphones where it feels like it travels through your head at the beginning, and then when it really kicks in, it motivates you so much to just kick Ultimecia super hard in the teeth (figuratively) that it functionally works perfectly as a final boss theme.
