At one point in FF8‘s development, Laguna had a little green truck that he would drive around Winhill when he was fighting monsters and performing general duties as the village himbo.
As documented by the good researchers over at TCRF, there used to be multiple scenes in the Winhill flashback where you could see Laguna’s teeny tiny automobile, which probably still has more carrying and towing capacity than a Cybertruck.
Using the GameShark code on TCRF, I glitched into the unused/unfinished scene with the truck. There it is! Also a floating Squall.
There’s also a scene of the car in motion! I re-ripped this from the game because Laguna’s truck deserves only the highest quality.
We never got to see this car in action in the final game, but it’s not hard to imagine Laguna and Kiros having a serious conversation in this car while they’re out on a monster-hunting mission. Alas, the amount of time we spend with Laguna in Winhill is about as small as the truck itself.
We can speculate about why the truck was cut, but Laguna did play a much bigger role in the early marketing for FF8. In some alternate universe, FF8 was an open-world Laguna Simulator where you drive around in a green truck going on monster hunts. Is he just killing the monsters to defend the town, or are they eating the monster meat? Does he bring back the monsters in his truck like a really gross version of the hunting minigame from The Oregon Trail?
